Secure Launch: Coinbase’s Layer 2 Base Readies for Mainnet

• Coinbase’s layer 2 network Base is preparing to launch on Ethereum mainnet soon.
• The team behind Base is focusing on security and using Coinbase’s best practices in order to ensure the blockchain is secure.

Coinbase’s Layer 2 Network Set To Launch On Ethereum Mainnet

Coinbase’s layer 2 network, Base, is preparing to launch on Ethereum mainnet soon. The team behind the network considers being a fork of Optimism an advantage security-wise. To ensure the blockchain is secure, they are combining Coinbase’s security best practices with the decentralized security of an open-source codebase.

Security Audits

Base has been performing various audits in partnership with OP Labs over the past six months and engaging over 100 protocol security researchers via Code4rena to check for any possible vulnerabilities or breaches.

Open Source Monitoring Tool

The team at Base have also developed an open-source monitoring tool called Pessimism which will be used to get notifications about possible vulnerabilities such as account balance irregularities, contract events or disparities between states of different nodes.

Simulated Exercises

The team at Base have also held simulated exercises to test and enhance their response capabilities and resilience in case of a large scale incident. This helps them assess their preparedness for any sort of emergency that may arise during their launch on Ethereum mainnet.

Security Is Essential

Security is essential when bringing more developers and users onto the blockchain platform which is why Base has taken extra measures like performing multiple audits and developing open source tools such as Pessimism in order to keep their blockchain safe from malicious threats or attacks.
